Day 7 Friday 28 March
Sanderson, TX to Terlingua, TX
Early start as breakfast is 50 miles away. Heading out of the ‘metropolis’ that was Sanderson, Texas heading west into the emptiness that is rural Texas. Marathon appears
like an oasis out of nowhere and we at last get to eat breakfast, and after some snack shopping it is onto Big Bend National Park, $25 per bike for entrance. And for the
rest of the day it is all about taking pictures, in fact into the night as well as these areas are designated as an International Dark Sky Parks so we should get some good
night shots as well. After taking in multiple stops for photographs as well as dipping our toes into the Rio Grande we head to Terlingua. Terlingua is an old mining town
and now is more of a ghost town, that comes with it’s own warning ‘Be aware that cell phones may inadvertently change to Mountain Time and cause you to be an hour
behind schedule. Double check when in the area for the correct local time when visiting. The Big Bend area is in Central Standard Time.’ Tonight we eat at the Starlight
Theatre where you can try Texas specialties like Chicken-Fried Texas Antelope with Lone Star Beer Gravy and Smoked Brisket Queso, then wash it all down with single-
barrel tequila sold only at the Starlight.
